Why You Should Stop Searching Google For Your Paid Ads

Hopefully you know that when you see your ad that you should not click on it. You’d be depleting your own spend. But often clients search Google.com themselves to see if their ad is showing. Let me tell you why you need to stop doing that immediately.

First, Google likes to put out the most relevant information. If you continually search for your ad often and don’t click on it (which, again, you absolutely should not do), Google might choose to stop showing it to you because it thinks you aren’t interested. After all, it’s shown it to you, and you haven’t engaged.

Second, and we have heard this straight from Google representatives, Google’s system can detect the owner or subject of the ads and tries not to show it to you. While possibly frustrating, the reason is a good one. You see, when your ad shows due to a search that logs as an impression. When you get an imbalance of impressions to clicks, that makes your click through rate (CTR) go down. A bad CTR could cause a low ad rank, further making your ads not appear. Invalid searches can cause your ad rank to go down, and invalid clicks will deplete your spend and cause inaccuracy in the numbers.

Going Incognito on occasion might work. It will still register and overstate the impressions, but it is the better option…on occasion.

By far the best option is to call us. Through the Ad Preview and Diagnosis tool that Google provides us, we can see exactly what is going on, screen shot it for you with a date stamp. We can dial it down to specific cities and keywords to see if the ads are showing. Most of the time Google can give us a reason for the ad not showing.

We also provide monthly comprehensive reports that pull data directly from Google, other advertising platforms, and Analytics. We can provide other statistics and data as well.
